What is Awareness?

  1. Awareness is the movement of Actuality. It is not the manoeuvre of abstractions and ascriptions.
  2. Awareness pertains to the real thing, not to the thought and the theory about the thing.
  3. Awareness is concerned with the fact, not with the fancy and fallacy camouflaging the fact.
  4. Awareness belongs to ‘what is’, not to ‘what should be’.
  5. Awareness leads to freedom and emptiness, not to fragmentation of the experience-structure.
  6. Be aware of your neurosis!
  7. Rise to the awareness of your (mind’s) conflicts, confusion and chaos; not run into concepts, conclusion and concoction.
  8. Be awake to your awareness, don’t remain asleep in your ambition.
  9. Awareness is intelligence, assertion is merely intellectual.
  10. Be aware of your guilt & gullibility, of your greed and god, of your glorification and gratification.
  11. Don’t carry the burden of your belief-systems, symbols, images, motives, taboos, prejudices, superstitions, pretentions; just be aware of them.
  12. Be aware of your pursuits for power, possessions, position, prominence; don’t seduce yourself by paradoxes and prayers.
  13. Find out if the consciousness can be aware of itself without splitting itself into two — ‘me’ and ‘my consciousness’.
  14. Be aware that although you have a unique body, you are not an individual! You are the whole humanity! There is diversity but no division.
  15. Be aware of the self-hypnotic techniques being sold in the spiritual market as meditation and thus be available to the sacred movement of spontaneous meditation.
  16. Awareness is the only morality which wakes you up to the immorality of the power of money, to the insistence on worldliness that industrialism has brought about and to the idiocy of ideologies. And out of such an awareness comes an extraordinary sense of immensity which no President, no Prime Minister, no Pope, no Paramahansa is aware of!
  17. Awareness makes the following miracles in the Psyche:
    • Breaks the bifurcation between the observer and the observed.
    • Sees the actual without abstraction.
    • Comprehends without the ladder of concepts and conclusions.
    • Demolishes the darkness of duality.
    • Flashing of freedom from fragmentations in the field of consciousness begins.
    • Knows without getting into the trap of Knower and the Knowledge (Vedanta process).
    • Overthrows the obscurity of opposites.
    • Rejects reaction or re-iteration for adequate response to resurrect.
    • Sees without the separative process in the consciousness.
    • Surrenders without subservience.
    • Thinks outside the corridor of the Thinker (past) and the Thought (future).
    • Understands without undertaking.
    • Views without vanity.
    • Watches without words.
    • Meditates without the meditator.
    • Ego is held in abeyance for the emptiness to speak.

Don’t ABSCOND, BE AWARE! ‘BHAAGO NAHI, JAAGO!’

Epilogue 1: Guru Nanak’s Mantra on Awareness

Ekamkar Satnam Karta purukh Nirbhayo Nirwaer Akal murat Ajuni Saebhang Guru prasad

Ekamkar: ‘It’ is the same divinity without division despite diversity.
Satnam: ‘It’ is the truth — vast and existential.
Karta purukh: ‘It’ is the Energy and Intelligence. (Prakriti & Purush of Gita and Chiti-Shakti of Patanjali).
Nirbhayo: ‘It’ has nothing to do with fears or apprehensions of the embodied consciousness.
Nirwaer: ‘It’ is beyond all conflicts of opposites and enmity.
Akal murat: ‘It’ transcends all limitation in time and space.
Ajuni: ‘It’ has no beginning (and therefore no end too).
Saebhang: ‘It’ is revealed naturally by itself.
Guru prasad: ‘It’ is the ultimate grace of the Guru Process.

Epilogue 2: Meaning of the word ‘GURU’

GU: from Gupta, that is, camouflaged, covered, darkness. RU: from Rudra, that is, fire, light.
So, GURU implies the process of dispelling darkness.

Cuno nahīm suno,
māno nahīm jāno,
saṁvād nahīm sannāṭā!

In message 81, we listened to the Lahiri-lore: ‘bhāgo nahīm jāgo’ making an appeal not to run away from relationship and responsibility, but to re-inforce the process of self-knowing considering relationship as mirror so that we wake up to freedom inspite of relationship without remaining asleep in fabrications and formulations of the mind. Let us now ponder over other melodies from the same source, one by one:

‘Cuno nahīm suno!’
‘Don’t choose, but just listen’

We do not listen, we do not pay total attention as the ‘I’ is inattention due to heavy fragmentations in the separative consciousness of the body. We quickly run into choices, selections, classifications because of past pressures and prejudices, attachment and aversion and many other factors such as cultural inputs, conventions and conditioning. Thus we can not listen in a state of let-go, bias-less-ness and love. Listening does not take place due to non-stop interference from a divisive listener. This prevents a radical change in understanding, a fundamental transformation in the psyche. We do not listen quietly as we remain busy in re-constructing, re-adjusting and re-embellishing the fictitious fragmentation which is known as ‘I’, higher self, atma, soul, spirit, individuality, personality, aura, mind, ego, astral body and by many other gratifying and comforting baloney. Whole-hearted listening from a body wherein freedom has been flashed without any ‘experience’ is a basic requirement. This is Swadhyay. It can blast the listener into freedom instantaneously. But if this does not happen due to rigidity prevailing in the listener, then please listen again and again for God’s sake. Suddenly, sometime, the listener is certainly going to be blasted into freedom without recording any knowledge or experience. Do not expect anything while listening. All expectations are merely ego-trips. And all ego-trips are movements in the wrong direction, not in the direction of the most Sacred!

‘Māno nahīm jāno!’
‘Don‘t get into mental undertaking, but have the freedom of understanding’
‘Don‘t merely agree (or disagree), but be available to actuality.’

We get lost in the bogmire of borrowed knowledge from books or from charlatans of the spiritual market. Borrowed knowledge is useful in technical world. But in matters deeply religious and spiritual, truth has to be discovered by and for oneself again and again as also from moment to moment. No theology, no belief-systems, no concepts can help us to get rid of our stupid demands & delusions. This ‘māno nahīm jāno’ is short and sweet invitation to the world of perceptions transcending the domain of concepts and conclusions.

‘Saṁvād nahīm sannāṭā!’
‘No chattering nor gossiping, but deep Silence!’

Thought always keeps churning due to agitation and agony. Thoughts project a ‘thinker’ for sustenance through duality. When thought is aware of itself without the rising of the ‘thinker‘, it functions only for co-ordination to perform daily tasks as and when necessary. Thoughts then become discontinuous from time to time and divinity of deep silence is then possible. ‘Thinker’ desperately tries to give itself continuity and permanency through ‘God’ and beliefs, ‘souls’ and re-births, ‘heaven’ and ‘hell’ and so on. In the activities of the ‘thinker‘, ecstasy of the Silence of Space and Energy of Universal Intelligence (Chaitanya) can not be anticipated.

Let all your psychological devices, defenses, dependencies meet a casual death to allow life to dance in your body, just as a blade of grass that comes up through the pavement has the wisdom to withstand casual death to resurrect in life again and again! Creation is never in the hands of the ‘thinker‘. Creation ceases when ‘thinker’ with its pride and prejudice, assertion and arrogance, corruption and confusion, becomes dominant. Creation (Silence) is the movement of the unknowable essence of the whole. It can never be the expression of the part (‘thinker‘).
